This is our new herd guard dog Mia. She is a Maremma Sheepdog. Her breed has been used for centuries in Central Italy to protect sheep from wolves. She has been with us for only a few months, but is doing a great job protecting our goats and our poultry. She is also growing like a weed and is now almost as big as our other herd guard dog Bonnie.
This is a new addition to our farms. His name is Doobie. As you can see, he is a German Shepheard and he is about 90 pounds and still growing. While we are not happy with his name, he is a beautiful boy and we already love him.
This was our Baby, an AKC registered Bloodhound. Sadly, Baby died on July 8, 2013, after being ill for some time. She died peacefully, and in the company of people who loved her very much. She will be forever in our hearts.
This is Red, our beloved AKC registered Redbone Coonhound. Sadly, he is no longer with us, but he lives on on our hearts.
This is our sweet Bonnie. She is a 90 pound Great Pyrenees herd guard dog who is now three years old. She is in charge of outside security in general, and specifically the security of our goat herd, as well as the safety of our poultry. She now has an assistant, our Maremma Sheepdog Mia. They seem to work in shifts. Mia protects all day while Bonnie sleeps and Bonnie runs around the farm all night while Mia sleeps.
Our girl Bonnie in a more customary pose.
Here is an old photo of our beloved Red resting his head on Daisy.
